This Final Fantasy title is much like the other earlier versions in regards to battling foes. I'd be willing to bet that 80% of the time spent playing this game is going toe to toe with monsters. A few times while fighting my way through dungeons, I actually became confused and disoriented while I was in the dungeon. It seemed like every other step I took turned up a battle. After 5 or 6 battles, I really had no idea where I was in the dungeon anymore and had to backtrack a bit. I eventually learned to pay more attention to which direction my character was facing after the battle ended...which was the direction I was traveling just prior to engaging in battle. It was annoying and frustrating at times, but it paid off in the end.
Besides...this is how most of the earlier versions of Final Fantasy are designed so you should be used to it by now if you've played them before.
