This is quite possibly the best racer on the N64, even over Mario Kart.(Speaking of that, my N64 Top 10 is a bit outdated...) Pretty much every aspect of the original F-Zero was greatly improved, from the tracks themselves to the vehicles(or machines, as the game calls them). You can blow through loop-de-loops and chicanes at 1000km/hr, and it really feels like you're going that fast. The amount of usable machines increases to 4 to 30, each with its own driver and specs. It includes a good multiplayer mode also, but most of your time will be spent in single player. The big prize for clearing the game on Expert Mode is the X Cup, which is six randomly generated tracks. You'll never get the same one twice, so you can keep playing long after you get tired of the regular tracks.

I just wish some of the cooler pilots, such as Samurai Goroh and Antonio Guster had better machines. I generally use Pico who is a green alien, or a dude dressed in a StarFox member's clothes called James McCloud, or a big guy named Roger Buster.

James McCloud is the name of Fox's father. The F-Zero guys put a human version of him in as a joke. As for Pico, he was one four pilots in the original F-Zero, he along with all the F-Zero X characters return in F-Zero GX. I don't remember seeing him or that name in any other game.

No, I knew who they were, I meant it seemed familiar that they were in a game. It probably was this.

This game is terrific. My only complaint is that the stages cause major eye problems with those with sensitive eyes

Because it moves so fast, and the N64 graphics are jagged? I bet it would mess me up.

The game does have a warning at the start about Photosensitive Epilepsy, so if you're eyes are sensitive to lots of flashing lights and constant action, don't play this game unless you're in a well lit room.

Is there any way that this and the other F-Zero X thread could be merged?

To unlock James, you must earn nine X's. You earn one each time you win a cup at that particular difficulty level. The easiest way to do this is to complete the first three cups on Novice and Standard(that unlocks the fourth cup), then complete the Joker Cup on Novice and Standard, then finally the Jack Cup on Expert. It's a pain, but well worth it.
